The 13th convocation of Bahria University Karachi Campus and the 7th Convocation of Pakistan Navy School of Logistics were held at Bahria University Campus, here on Saturday. As many as 866 degrees were awarded to the Undergraduate and Graduate students at these events.
Chief of Naval Staff Admiral Muhammad Zakaullah NI(M) awarded Gold Medals to 32 students namely Shahtaj Bano, Hafsa Agha, Syed Muhammad Ubaid Alavi, Mehak Mirza, Rubab Zehra, Tahreem Qureshi, Komal Aziz Memon, Sarah Tariq, Tariq Javaid, Nida Ahmed Farid, Sami Abid, Maham Zeeshan, Ayesha Saleem, Sidra Ashfaq, Maria Saeed, Muhammad Shafiq and Mohsin Ali Maroof from Management Sciences Department; Yumnah Sajjad Khrbey from Media Studies Department; Muhammad Asim Arshad, Syed Muhammad Ali, Saqib Anwer from Electrical Engineering Department; Amin Motiwala, Sania Rasheed, Huma Tabassum, Muhammad Tariq Hameed from Computer Sciences Department; Pireh Pirzada, Asif Ali, Faiza Sabir from Software Engineering Department; M Imran Hafeez Abbasi from Earth & Environmental Sciences Department; and Sarwat Aziz, Muhammad Zain Waseem and Ambreen Ashraf from Psychology Department. Silver Medals were also awarded to 23 students who achieved top positions in their respective programs.
Dr Amir Manzoor was awarded the degree of Ph.D. in the discipline of Management Sciences from Bahria University Karachi Campus.
Pro-Chancellor of Bahria University, Admiral Muhammad Zakaullah, NI(M), congratulated the graduating students on their splendid success and lauded Bahria University Karachi Campus and Pakistan Navy School of Logistics for providing exceptional knowledge and skills to the graduated students in their respective disciplines that, he said, would enable them to lead a professionally rewarding life. He said that the role of the Universities and Institutions had gained significant importance to help impart the needed education and fostering competencies to make them better and productive citizen of Pakistan.
"Today, universities need to expand strategic networking with multinational corporations, public and private sectors, and research-based institutions," he said, adding that the underlying theme of collaborative relationship was to understand each other's needs and equipping the students with knowledge that make them effective at their workplace; both locally and internationally.
Admiral Zakaullah further said that new endeavours undertaken by the management of the Bahria University with commitment and determination would yield the best results for all the stakeholders and would definitely provide competitive edge to Bahria University to that would make it a leading University of the country. He was pleased to see quite a good number of graduates in varied academic disciplines being produced by Bahria University. He said that the conferment of Ph.D. degree proved that the Management of Bahria University was fully aware of the importance of research.
Earlier, in his welcome address, Rector of the BU, Vice Admiral Tanveer Faiz HI (M) (retired) thanked the Chief of Naval Staff for his presence. He spoke on efforts of the Bahria University for providing the most conducive academic environment, state-of-the art labs and highly-qualified faculty for its postgraduate and undergraduate students. Moreover, in order to remain compatible with market demands, Bahria University was continuously reviewing curricula of its ongoing programmes along with new initiatives such as beginning the Ph.D. in Geophysics, MS in Project Management, Supply Chain Management, MBA in Islamic Finance, Bachelors in Information Technology and various other disciplines.
"Universities have greater role to play in the economic development of the nations. Bahria University is focused on this facet and aims at producing quality graduates who could contribute towards economic growth of the country," he said.
