British Deputy High Commissioner Belinda Lewis has said that many British companies are interested to start their business in Pakistan. Talking to reporters at a reception in her honour hosted by Mundia Group on Monday evening, she said Pakistan was a big and rapidly growing market in South Asia.
Belinda Lewis, who is also UK's Trade Director to Pakistan, said that due to economic stability, the middle class was growing in Pakistan. "With the growing middle class, demand would eventually increase giving us a chance to increase our exports to Pakistan," she said. She said many UK brands and Chains were interested to open their stores in Pakistan. Pakistani textiles were very popular in the UK due to good quality, she added.
She said there was huge potential to increase bilateral trade between Pakistan and the UK. About China Pakistan Economic Corridor, the British Deputy High Commissioner said it was a big project. "The UK has expertise in many sectors like infrastructure, accountancy, finance, project management, architect, etc and we are looking for opportunities for British companies in this mega project," she said.
Earlier, Chairman Mundia Group M Ilyas Mundia, Basit Mundia and others welcomed the guests and presented shields. Shields were presented to the UK Deputy High Commissioner; the Counsel Generals of Oman, Russia, Japan, Germany, Switzerland and Korea while a large number of dignitaries attended the event.
