110 young Afghan boys and girls received their diplomas after successfully completing one year intense course in various allied medical disciplines. A Diploma Awarding ceremony took place at PIMS Auditorium, which was attended by the officials of Government of Pakistan and the embassies of United States and Afghanistan.
Not many refugees living in Pakistan have the opportunity to continue their education after 12th grade thus are forced to do menial jobs. To address this gap, ARC Pakistan has designed a multi-disciplinary medical training program exclusively for the Afghan refugee youth.
The project was funded by the US government and facilitated by the office of the Chief Commissioner of Afghan Refugees and Shaheed Zulfiqar Ali Bhutto Medical University. The program at its launch received over 1,000 applications across the country against just 100 available seats.
"Today these graduates hold dreams for a new tomorrow that would be very different for so many like them living in camps suburban areas of Pakistan. We believe these young graduates will take their skills learnt through this rigorous training program back to Afghanistan and serve their people with dedication" says ARC Country Representative, Dr Tariq H Cheema.
