The Supreme Court granted bail to former Managing Director of Pakistan Electric Power Company (PEPCO) Tahir Basharat Cheema on Friday, as National Accountability Bureau (NAB) had apprehended him on charge of misuse of authority. Earlier, a division bench of the Lahore High Court had dismissed bail application where Cheema challenged National Accountability Court''s proceedings in the matter.
After hearing the arguments of Cheema''s counsel, a 2-judge bench of the Supreme Court comprising Justice Mushir Alam and Justice Manzoor Ahmad Malik granted bail against 2 surety bonds of Rs 500,000 each. Top anti-graft body of the country arrested Cheema for his alleged involvement in misuse of powers and illegal recruitments in Gujranwala Electric Power Company (GEPCO).
