The Counter Terrorism Department (CTD) on Sunday killed five suspected militants during an operation in Dera Ghazi Khan. According to sources, the terrorists belonged to a banned outfit and were planning a major terror activity in the province.
The CTD personnel arrived in Rojhani area after a tip-off about presence of 'terrorists'. The armed suspects opened fire on the law enforcement personnel after they entered the locality.
In retaliatory fire by the CTD men, five terrorists were killed and couple of others were said to have fled the scene.
Heavy cache of arms was seized during the raid.
It may be noted here that Army and Rangers had decided to conduct a widespread operation across Punjab to target militants, their facilitators and their hideouts in March this year.
The crackdown gave paramilitary Rangers extraordinary powers to conduct raids and interrogate suspects.
Previous military crackdowns have focused on the lawless tribal regions where the Taliban and other militants are based. Paramilitary Rangers also launched a crackdown on criminals in the violent southern port city of Karachi in 2013.
