The main arteries in Lahore including Canal Bank Road, Mall Road, Jail Road and other adjoining roads of the provincial metropolis on Monday witness a worst traffic mess when the students of Bahauddin Zakariya University (BZU), Lahore campus, protested against the varsity management for not granting them degrees and shifting their local campus to Multan.
They protestors blocked Canal Road and raised slogans against the negligent management and demanded Punjab Chief Minister Shahbaz Sharif to take strict action against them and direct the varsity to award them their degrees. They were also carrying placards inscribed with slogans "stop playing with our future" and "give us our right". As a result of the protest, Canal Road remained blocked for many hours that created long queues of cars and motorists.
Umair Aurangzeb, a commuter, told this scribe that a traffic warden behaved harshly when he asked him about alternate route. According to him, several ambulances also remained stuck in traffic congestion. Moreover, the traffic mess became worst when government and private employees left their offices. The Jail Road, Mall Road, Ferozepur Road and other adjoining roads also experienced the same situation.
