The Lahore High Court (LHC) on Wednesday adjourned to December 26 for further arguments the proceedings in response to a petition of Justice Democratic Party of former CJP Iftikhar Muhammad Chaudhry seeking disqualification of Prime Minister (PM) Nawaz Sharif. The lawyer representing PM opposed the petition and said it did not come under the jurisdiction of LHC. The matter in question took place in Islamabad and the petitioner belonged to Balochistan, he said. The counsel pleaded that the petitioner should be directed to approach the relevant forum.
The counsel for the petitioner, Hamid Khan, however, opposed the arguments of the PM's counsel and said that the National Assembly speaker was bound to send the reference to the ECP within a period of 30 days which he did not. The court after hearing both the sides adjourned the proceedings to next hearing for further arguments.
