The new order of Lahore High Court (LHC) to vacate the stay granted to commercial importers against anti-dumping proceedings initiated on the request of tiles and paper industry would resume such proceedings by the National Tariff Commission (NTC).
In a statement issued by Sheikh Mahmood Iqbal - Chief Executive of Organisation for Advancement and Safeguard of Industrial Sector (OASIS) here Thursday, the LHC had fixed the hearing for December 21, 2016 in cases of tiles and paper industries and did not give any further stay orders and vacated the earlier stays in tiles and paper cases.
He was confident that the expected resumption of hearings in anti-dumping cases of tiles and paper industry by the NTC would play a key role in protection of the local industry. "It is a landmark judgement in favour of the domestic manufactures", he remarked.
He said that prior to creation of OASIS, there was no such platform which could assist the court on timely basis and undue delays in investigative process could be avoided. OASIS has been formed to safeguard interests of the domestic industry as a whole with a view to curb unemployment from the country through industrialisation.
During the past ten years many industries who suffered from the menace of dumping applied for anti-dumping investigations but due to technical grounds in which there was no fault on the part of the private parties they had been deprived of their legitimate right of tariff protection, Sheikh Mahmood Iqbal stated.
He also expressed his views about the potential in the industrialists of the country who according to him have every capability to produce world class products in Pakistan and the only thing they require from the government is to ensure proper functioning of the regulatory authorities and timely actions against unfair trade practices.
He also thanked to all the members of OASIS as well as members of the NTC stakeholders forum who have assured their unconditional support in future and informed that very soon they are going to hold another meeting of their members in which strategic decisions are going to be taken with a view to strengthen the platform further.
He termed it as a landmark achievement and reaffirmed his commitment with the domestic industry to safeguard it at all costs against avoidable threats on the way to provide a level playing field to the domestic industry in Pakistan, Chief Executive OASIS added. -PR
