The EU's anti-fraud office said Thursday it is recommending the European Union recover nearly 300 million euros from Hungary over suspected fraud in the construction of the Budapest metro. OLAF, the office's French acronym, said it has "concluded an investigation into alleged fraud and irregularities" over construction of line four of the Budapest metro, a 1.7 billion euro ($1.77 billion) project partly financed with EU funds. "The OLAF investigation uncovered serious irregularities - fraud and possible corruption," it said, recommending the EU's regional and urban policy division "recover" 228 million euros.
