Christmas was celebrated in various areas of this port city with great enthusiasm and cheerful events, like other parts of the country, on Sunday. Pakistani Christian community began the day with special prayers for unity and welfare of nation and the progress of the country. Different joyful events were held at churches of the city wherein the speakers underscored the need of unity, equality and tolerance irrespective of religious affiliations.
The community leaders also urged the government to ensure that their rights were being given to them as they too were integrated part of the society and patriotic community of the country.
Politicians, civil society representatives and people from different walks of life visited the Churches to greet the Christian community on the Christmas.
The Pakistan People's Party (PPP) chairman, Bilawal Bhutto Zardari, visited St. Patrick Church where he cut a Christmas cake.
On this occasion he said that the minorities in Pakistan had the desire that peace must be established in the country. He said that the laws might differ on the rights of the minorities, but there was no difference in the hearts and mind of the people.
He said that he has complete respect for all people irrespective of religion.
"We celebrate and mourn together as an integrated nation. Like Eid and Diwali, we also celebrate Christmas together and share each others' festivities," Bilawal said in a tweet a day earlier.
