Capital Development Authority (CDA) cancelled lease of various commercial/hotel plots in the federal capital in year 2015-16 over violation of buildings bylaws. According to the documents available with Business Recorder, the following buildings have violated bylaws and regulations of the CDA, as the management of these buildings allowed occupancy without taking permission from a competent authority.
These buildings include Marriott Hotel, Serena Hotel, Centaurus Shopping Mall, UBL Tower, Oil and Gas Development Company Limited (OGDCL) building, Islamabad Stock Exchange (ISE) building, Silver Oaks residential apartments, Safa Gold Mall and under-construction Grand Hyatt Hotel.
The documents revealed that the residential towers of Grand Hyatt and Safa Gold Mall severely violated building bylaws. Previously, the CDA had cancelled the 99 years lease for Grand Hyatt and also had sealed Safa Shopping Mall over violating bylaws. Later on, the civic agency reopened the mall after its owners gave an undertaking for removal of violations and clearance of outstanding dues. However, the matter related to Grand Hyatt is still pending.
During 2016, the CDA cancelled the lease of nine commercial plots including that of Grand Hyatt. These plots included Park One in Islamabad Sector F-10, another plot in the same sector adjacent to Silver Oaks, a hospital plot in I-8 Markaz, three plots in Margalla Town extension and a plot in F-9/G-9, which was leased out to a former federal minister. These plots had been cancelled due to litigation and non-payment.
