"Speech is the greatest invention of humanity. Speech and hearing is very important for communication, because of speech we are able to express our expressions", Senator Javed Jabbar said while addressing as Chief Guest to the Commemoration of 10 years by Ziauddin College of Speech Language and Hearing Sciences (ZCSLHS), Ziauddin University. He congratulated to Dr Pirzada Qasim Raza Siddiqui, Vice Chancellor Ziauddin University for leading this College and for their remarkable success on completion of 10 years for the education of such a specialized subject.
The College of Speech Language and Hearing Sciences, Ziauddin University, celebrated the 10th Year of its foundation and orientation ceremony for the new batch held on Tuesday, January 10th at the Ziauddin University. The other speakers on the occasion included Mehtab Akbar Rashdi, Dr Abdul Ghaffar Billoo, founding member of CSLHS; Dr Pirzada Qasim Raza Siddiqui, Vice Chancellor Ziauddin University and Amina Siddiqui, Principal CSLHS.
Mehtab Akbar Rashdi, Member Sindh Assembly, another guest speaker congratulated to the 10th batch of Ziauddin University and the faculty for completing 10 years. "Parents don't realise the difficulties related to hear and speech of their children in the early years, don't be discouraged by the dryness of this subject you should believe in yourself," while talking to the students she said. She advised the students that this university is doing the pioneering work and it is serving for society, "you go out and serve the humanity and your country."
A renowned pediatrics, Dr Abdul Ghaffar Billoo while addressing the audience disclosed that several thousand boys and girls don't have access to speech. More than 10 percent of our population has communication problems of speech or hearing. It means out of 200 million at least 20 million children are unable to communicate, and we haven't done anything for them.
Professor Pirzada Qasim, Vice Chancellor, Ziauddin University informed the gathering that this is the top ranking university so I would advise you to get advantage of this vital institution. He said that around 20 million students in Pakistan haven't seen schools even. People are waiting for students like you, you all are important. There are very few colleges of speech and hearing science in Pakistan, and Ziauddin College of Speech Language and Hearing Sciences is the first college on this subject in Pakistan. We had started this college with 4 units only, while now we have 13 units. So far this institution has provided treatment to about 7000 patients in Dr Ziauddin Hospital.
Earlier, Principal of the College Amina Siddiqui in her welcome address thanked Dr Asim Hussain, the Chancellor of Ziauddin University and Patron of the CSLHS, who took this initiative. She stated that in our country the highest number of patient facing the impediments of speech and hearing issues are belonging to the age group of three to six years children while the lowest number were from 18 to 39 years age group.-PR
