The domestic consumers in many areas of Lahore faced low pressure of gas on Wednesday and their sufferings also multiplied due to illegal use of compressors which affect gas pressure in the vicinity. The low gas pressure hit most of the localities in the city and the households remained unable to even cook their foods due to low gas pressure.
The residents of Mughalpura, Dharampua, Baghbanpura, Samanabad, Gulshan-e-Ravi, Sanda, Bhaati Gate, Badami Bagh, Islampura, Icchra, Rehmanpura, Kasur Pura and Ghaziabad were the most affected. They said they used Liquefied Petroleum Gas (LPG) as an alternative but it was very expensive and unaffordable.
"We could not even prepare breakfast for our school going children owing to low gas pressure," said Fatima, a housewife living in Samnabad. According to the officials of Sui Northern Gas Pipe Lines Limited (SNGPL), it has always been the foremost priority of SNGPL management to provide round the clock and uninterrupted gas supply to its valued consumers. The gas supply has been increased to 1500 MMCFD compared to 1174 MMCFD last year. This year 326 MMCFD has been added to the system, improving the supply to all consumers. This year's low pressure complaints are far less than previous years due to inclusion of RLNG in the system.
The officials said it has been decided that RLNG supply of CNG sector shall remain suspended from January 11, 2017 to 1800 Hrs on January 14, 2017. The upgradation and construction work is being carried out by SNGPL on war footing to ensure uninterrupted gas supply to its consumers in years to come.
