Islamabad police and Rangers conducted a joint operation against drug dealers in different areas located around Quaid-e-Azam University here on Wednesday. An official of police told that over 2,000 personnel of Islamabad police and Rangers participated in the operation along with sniffer dogs of the Anti-Narcotics Force (ANF). The personnel of law-enforcement agencies (LEAs) conducted operation in areas including Rumli, Dhoke Narail, Malpur Mira, Dhoke Tahir, Dhoke Sahali and Basti Bajran.
He said that 4 persons including an employee of Quaid-e-Azam University Muhammad Bashir were arrested. The other arrested persons included Safdar, Nasir and Asher. They were allegedly involved in supplying drugs to students. A huge quantity of drugs was also recovered from them.
Earlier this week, the ANF arrested a gang leader who was allegedly involved in supplying hashish, lysergic acid diethylamide (LSD) and other imported high-end drugs to students of different universities and educational institutions in the federal capital. The issue of drugs in university was revealed by Vice-Chancellor Quaid-e-Azam University Dr Javed Ashraf before the Senate Standing Committee on Interior and Narcotics Control on December 30.
"The university has repeatedly informed the relevant departments to take action against drug mafia and encroachers, but so far no concrete measures have been taken," he had told the committee. Following the meeting of the Standing Committee on Interior, the minister directed the LEAs to conduct an operation against drug dealers involved in supplying drugs to the university students.
