The Lahore High Court Chief Justice Syed Mansoor Ali Shah on Monday disposed of the petitions challenging eligibility of Mayor Lahore Col (r) Mubashir Javed and directed the petitioners to approach the election commission of Pakistan (ECP).
Abdur Rehman and others, through their counsel Sheraz, had filed petitions that Mubashar Javed had been in government service and could not contest election before a period of two years after leaving the job. He said that the mayor also served as chief warden of civil defence department and member of evacuee trust property board. He said that Mubashir Javed was not eligible to contest any election and was ineligible to hold office of mayor and must be disqualified.
Law officer opposing the petitions said that the petitioners were not aggrieved persons. He said that the petitioners had not provided evidence to prove their allegations against the mayor. He said the petitions failed to establish that Mubashar Javed had been getting remuneration from the government against any service and asked the court to dismiss the petitions.
In reply to these petitions an additional advocate general said that the petitions were not maintainable. He said that the petitioners should approach the proper forum of the ECP.
