Leaders of the ruling Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) on Monday said that Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif did not ask for immunity, unlike the perception being created in the media by opposition parties.
Addressing a joint press conference, Prime Minister's spokesperson Musadiq Malik and Member of National Assembly Daniyal Aziz said that Chairman Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) Imran Khan is habitual of levelling 'false and fabricated' allegations not only against his political opponents but also against the national institutions.
They said that Khan does not have any evidence to prove anything in the court regarding the Panamagate case against the Prime Minister, adding the PTI does not seem to have any opportunity for winning the next general election.
They said the PTI lawyer has lost the case as it was a dead case. They said that such cases can not be won in absence of proofs. They maintained that evidence presented by the PTI during TV talk shows and press conferences could not be put before the court. Malik said the Prime Minster has offered himself for accountability.
He said the Chairman PTI apologised over his statements in connection with the Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP), like he did in '35 puncture' allegations.
Aziz accused the PTI of consistent criminality and added that once party's representatives are caught, they resort to aggression. He alleged Secretary General PTI Jahangir Tareen for having 'purchased' votes in the General Elections 2013 and now Khan is hiding corruption. Criticising Khan over his non-serious attitude dealing with corruption, he said Chairman PTI removed General Hamid (retd) from his position as he started across the board accountability in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa.
He maintained that distorted version of issue concerning offshore companies was presented by the PTI, adding that the Prime Minister was not named in the Panama Leaks papers. He was of the view that the Chairman PTI is using bullying tactics by abusing national institutions to obtain his political targets. He said that Khan should understand that cases cannot be contested in the courts only on the basis of wishes. Aziz said that Khan on Monday submitted an unconditional apology with the ECP over his statements against the constitutional body hearing a case against PTI foreign funding.
Answering to a question, Aziz said the chairman PTI is intended to hide his face behind the BBC report rather than presenting evidences in the court. Referring the BBC report he said, it has already been shared with the court by Hussain Nawaz.
Khan is afraid of the names of Nawaz Sharif and Maryam Nawaz, he remarked. He said the PML-N is making efforts for socio-economic development of the country, adding the party would win the next election on the basis of its performance. The PTI was levelling baseless allegations by linking the name of Nawaz Sharif to the Panama papers. "We will submit all evidence in the court," he said. The PML-N will win the case not only in the court but it will also win this case in the public court, he remarked. The PTI, he said, has levelled allegations that there was difference in the Prime Minister's statements, but the counsels of the PML-N are giving arguments on his speech. "We will prove in the court that there was no difference in the speech of Prime Minster," he added.
