The Punjab Bio-Energy Company is importing five machines to convert the biomass available in the province into power besides creating awareness among the farmers not to destroy remnants of their crops instead supply it to the company and earn money.
This was disclosed by Punjab Bio-Energy Company Chief Executive Officer Rana Muhammad Arif while briefing Secretary Agriculture Punjab Muhammad Mahmood at a meeting on Thursday.
He further disclosed that 95 more machines would be developed by the local engineers seeing the imported machines. He said nine spots had been identified for storage of biomass at different places of the province, adding initially work on project of producing power from biomass had been started.
It is pertinent to add that the Punjab government had established the Bio-Energy Company with the primary objective to establish a model of crop biomass supply chain for power generation with advanced and innovative technological features so that these could be showcased as efficient and sustainable power projects. This whole initiative is being planned to trigger the process of collection of baled biomass and marketing so that a supply chain is established and there is sufficient availability of baled biomass.
This involves development of biomass supply chain mechanism, ensuring availability of biomass bales at a storage facility, marketing, availability of various technological options, project financing and scope for private sector involvement, and regulatory issues.
