Chief Justice of Pakistan Justice Mian Saqib Nisar Thursday took three suo motu notices, seeking reports from authorities concerned in various matters. The Chief Justice took suo motu notice over dysfunctional ventilators at Services Hospital Lahore, and granted 10 days to chief secretary Punjab to submit report after probing into the matter. The chief secretary has also been directed to verify the position that only three ventilators in ICU in children ward were functional saying, "if all the ventilators are in order or otherwise."
In his second suo motu notice, the Chief Justice issued directive to medical director of the Children Hospital Lahore to submit report in three days over imputations of three fingers of a new born baby in Ganga Ram Hospital Lahore.
The Chief Justice took the notice on reports that at Ganga Ram Hospital, hand of a new born baby burnt due to negligence of doctors, which resulted in subsequent imputation of thumb and two fingers of the baby boy.
Likewise, in his third suo motu notice in the same day, the Chief Justice has taken notice of grabbing and illegal occupation on Quaid-e-Azam University Islamabad land.
The Chief Justice took the notice in response to application of University authorities alleging that the university paid for 1709-acres of land and though the area was handed over to University in 1972, the Capital Development Authority (CDA) failed to give vacant possession to the university.
The university was continuously facing land grabbing/encroachment problems, besides the settlements, which were already there since its original land allocation in 1967 and 1972.
Furthermore, till today the university has lost control of over 600 acres of its land and it is apprehended if land grabbing/encroachments and illegal occupation of university's estate were not checked, in the future there might not be a university campus.
The application also highlighted that the alleged land grabbers and the illegal occupants are politically influential people that has made the situation worst for the university. The application further stated that university approached almost every authority to help them resolve the issue but all in vain.
Taking the cognisance of the issue, the Chief Justice directed to summon detailed reports from the chairman CDA and secretary Ministry of Interior within 03 days in the matter.
