The Punjab government has decided to install Health Information Management System (HIMS) in the tertiary and DHQ hospitals of the province, in a bid to improve performance of the hospitals, to prepare database of patients and to maintain inventory of medicines procurement, supply and consumption besides medical equipment.
As per details, the Punjab Information Technology Board (PITB) would start HIMS in one teaching and one DHQ hospital as a pilot project. In this regard, PITB would give presentation in the next weekly meeting of the Cabinet Committee while IDAP would prepare HIMS for Pakistan Kidney and Liver Institute.
Minister for Specialised Healthcare & Medical Education Khawaja Salman Rafique chaired a meeting of cabinet committee on health sector reforms. Minister for Primary & Secondary Health Kh Imran Nazir, Addl Chief Secretary Shamail Ahmad Khawaja, Secretary SH&ME Najam Ahmad Shah, Secretary P&S Health Ali Jan Khan, Chairman Punjab Information Technology Board Dr Umar Saif, Mujahid Sherdil from Infrastructural Development Authority Punjab (IDAP), Member Health P&D Dr Shabana Haider, Health Consultant Dr Naeem-ud-din Mian, Dr Shabnum from PPHA and other concerned officers attended the meeting.
The meeting gave approval for sending schedule for new expenditures (SNEs) of completed projects to the competent authority for approval.
Speaking on the occasion, Salman said that information technology is being used for making the system transparent. He added that Health Information Management System (HIMS) would be installed in all the tertiary as well as DHQ hospitals.
He said that Chief Minister Muhammad Shahbaz Sharif has directed to complete health sector development scheme on priority basis.
Khawaja Imran Nazir has said that a timeline should be fixed for completion of development schemes and accordingly work should be carried out.
Najam Ahmad Shah said that health insurance scheme has been introduced in four districts of Punjab under Prime Minister National Health Programme.
