Grace W Shelton, US Consul General Karachi (US-CGK) said that US Pakistan Center for Advanced Studies in Water (USPCAS-W) is producing next generation leaders who will look after the sustainability issues and challenges faced by Pakistan in the water sector.
She said that while interacting with exchange students and faculty of USPCAS-W who recently returned by spending one semester at University of Utah (UU) at USA. She said that US-Pakistan Centers for Advanced Studies (USPCAS) is one of its kind and prominent US Higher Education programs in Pakistan, which will pave the way for applied research corridor in the country.
She had a wonderful interactive session with the exchange students and faculty in which the exchange experiences were shared by them. Dr Mohammad Aslam Uqaili, Vice Chancellor Mehran University of Engineering & Technology (MUET) welcomed the guests of US Consulate and said that USPCAS-W is a state- of-the- art and modern applied research center in water sector of Pakistan which is established with generous support by the United States Agency for International Development (USAID). Dr Uqaili said that MUET is first Public Sector University, adopted the Gender Equity Policy after approval of concerned authorities, in this connection, a baby day care center, women resource center and other facilities for women employees and girls students were established in MUET.
He further said that USPCAS-W is encouraging and empowering women scientists and researchers to actively participate in applied research to solve Pakistan's contemporary problems. On this occasion, Dr Mohammad Aslam Chaudhry, Chief of Party USPCAS-W, UU briefed the delegation regarding the exchange selection criteria of the students.
