The demand for justice to a molested girl echoed Sindh Assembly on Monday, as the MQM urged the provincial government to ensure a shield to the vulnerable section of the society. Rana Ansar, a lady legislator of the MQM, raised the issue on the floor of the house about the 8-year-old girl, Tooba, who was sexually assaulted and then thrown on the bank of Korangi Naddi in a critical condition.
She said that the society was fast embracing such cruel behaviour. She urged the government to protect the children from sexual assaults.
Nisar Ahmed Khuhro, Sindh Senior Parliamentary Affairs Minister, proposed summary execution of the sexual assailants and called the molesters 'horrible' mindsets.
He said this disease [sexual assault] was growing in Pakistani society. He said that people were raped, killed and exploded with bombs.
"The victim girl was found in a critically injured condition with cut marks in neck on the bank of Korangi Naddi. Police have filed an FIR and arrested some eight suspects in the case," Khuhro said, adding that investigation was underway.
He cited doctors as saying that the girl was recovering and they hoped she would identify the perpetrators herself.
He pledged that the government would leave no stone unturned to bring the real perpetrators to justice.
Replying to a call-attention notice of PTI's Khurrum Sher Zaman Khan, Sindh Local Government Minister, Jam Khan Shoro, claimed that his party's government was supplying purified potable water to the public in the metropolis.
The PTI member pointed out that the city was receiving about 50 percent contaminated water, causing disease among the public.
During questions and answers session regarding his department, Sindh Planning and Development Minster, Mir Hazaar Khan Bijarani, told the house that the government's program to alleviate poverty in the province was succeeding.
He said that number of people living under the poverty line was declining due to the program.
He said that the government was helping people through union councils.
He said that the government had completed some 189 development projects during 2008-09 across the province, but could not start work on some 344 schemes. In 2009-10, work on some 400 schemes under Annual Development Programme was finished. Work on around 325 schemes could not begin but in aggregate 990 projects are underway.
The minister said that the government was supplying some 550 million gallons from Keenjhar Lake and some 100 MGD from Hub Dame Reservoirs to Karachi, on a daily basis.
He said that potable water was being chlorinated before actual supply to the public consumption.
The ruling party's legislators turned down Khurrum Sher Zaman Khan's adjournment motion on corruption in Sindh that was based on the auditor general's report 2015-16, on technical grounds.
Nusrat Sehar Abbasi, a PML-F's lady lawmaker, forgave Imdad Pitafi, Sindh Works and Services Minister, after he apologised, presented a shawl to her as per Sindh's tradition, called her sister and regretted for his contemptuous remarks against her last week.
Earlier, Abbasi had threatened to burn herself alive if the minister did not apologise.
She thanked the ruling PPP's chairman, Bilawal Bhutto Zardari and his younger sister, Aseefa Bhutto Zardari for their support to her after the minister insulted her.
She also lauded the public and civil society for their voice in her support. The house will resume at 10 am on Tuesday (today.)
