A prize distribution ceremony of All Pakistan TechFest held at Society of Mechanical Engineering of Pakistan (SMEP) at Ghulam Ishaq Khan Institute of Engineering Sciences and Technology, Swabi on Wednesday. Representatives of industry, academic staff and students from all over the country attended the event.
The organisers said that the gathering was held to provide a platform to the faculty, industry and students to interact with each other and frame engineering courses according to the requirements of the country's industry. The issue of power shortage was highlighted and the participants discussed that how Pakistan could control the electricity load shedding and fulfil the power requirements of the country's industry and consumers.
Speakers said that the students who received education in different disciplines of engineering should develop strong linkages with industry during their knowledge acquiring period. "Without ensuring uninterrupted power supply, it might not be possible to strengthen our nascent industrial base and provide employment opportunities to the young generation who completed their higher education," they said.
About the health problems, they said that it was vital to use and utilise the technology in treating different dreadful diseases. They said that engineers should focus on developing technology which could be utilised in controlling serious health problems, giving a number of examples of application of technology in health field.
Waleed Iqbal, PTI Lahore president said that the students should concentrate on creative activities. If they remain creative in their student life they would face no difficulties in getting jobs and their practical life would also be more pleasant and successful, he said.
A representative of United States Educational Foundation in Pakistan (USEFP) briefed the participants about opportunities of higher education in US and getting scholarship to study in different American universities.
Dr S M Ahmad, advisor of the society said that continuous efforts of SMEP members were culminated in organising a successful event. Engineering related modules like wind power turbine, gravity vehicle and obstacle tracking robot and some others were displayed in the event to motivate the students to concentrate on research work to achieve extraordinary success.
