The relatives of a young man, who was gunned down by policeman at I-10/1 sector, staged hours-long protest against police and blocked IJP Road here on Friday.
According to the detail, deceased Taimur Riaz, aged 27, a resident of Mardan, was travelling in a car (IDL-4724) with a girl in the early hours of Friday. They were signalled to stop by Eagle Squad of Islamabad police at a check point and a policeman, Samiullah Niazi opened the fire on their car when they did not stop.
The man died on the spot while the girl who belongs to Lahore remained safe during this tragic incident.
According to police official, the policeman who opened fire at Taimur fled the scene and the police had initiated a search for the suspect.
Police fired 3 bullets on the car, 1 fractured Taimur's head which resulted into his death, police added.
The dead body was shifted to Holy Family Hospital, Rawalpindi, and police informed the victim's father Javed Raiz about the incident. Later, the dead body was moved to Pakistan Institute of Medical Sciences (PIMS) for autopsy.
Sabzi Mandi police station registered a murder case against the policeman involved in the incident on the complaint of Sajid Riaz, brother of the deceased.
Sajid Riaz said the police personnel killed his brother unlawfully and the authorities concerned should take action against them forthwith.
Soon after the incident, the relatives of the deceased blocked the IJP Road in protest and placed the dead body on the road.
They chanted slogans against the police, burnt tires on the road and set a police check post on fire. The protestors rejected the police statements, saying there had been no prior warning to stop before the officers opened fire.
Protesters later dispersed following assurance by Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) local leader Ziaullah Shah and officials of district administration for including the section of ATA in the first information report (FIR).
The police personnel Samillullah and Tariq were at large till filing of this report.
