Directorate General of Intelligence and Investigation Inland Revenue, Federal Board of Revenue (FBR), has raided two places of an illicit cigarette manufacturing company, confiscated non-duty paid cigarettes and seized the factory equipment and record.
Sources told Business Recorder here on Wednesday that it is one of the major enforcement actions against cigarette manufacturing units involved in production and supply of non-duty paid cigarettes, causing loss to the national kitty. Enforcement action has been taken simultaneously at two different places of the said unit. The agency would continue its enforcement action against such illicit cigarette manufacturing units.
Director General Intelligence and Investigation Inland Revenue, Khawaja Tanveer Ahmed received a credible intelligence information that Rashid, Ghulam Rasool and Bilal are involved in manufacturing and supply of illicit cigarettes under the brand name 'Hitler' which are manufactured at two different places, ie, Hazroo area of district Attock and Swabi.
On the directions of the director general, two teams comprising officers and officials of the Directorate General Intelligence and Investigation Inland Revenue Islamabad and Peshawar conducted raids at both the places of the said illicit cigarette manufacturing unit. Both the teams successfully searched the premises and confiscated the illicit cigarettes in huge quantity. Later, the plant and machinery of the factory at Hazroo was seized by Additional Director Mazhar Iqbal.
Till filing of this report, the confiscated items including illicit cigarettes and record of the office and factory were being examined by the investigators of DG I&I IR. After completion of the investigation, a criminal case will be registered against the factory owners.Meanwhile, the director general I&I IR congratulated all team members over their commendable performance.
