Hayatabad Residents Society has demanded a separate town status for the posh locality of the Hayatabad and free occupation of the township from Peshawar Development Authority, and warned the provincial government that they would approach the court, if demands not met.
Addressing at a news conference at press club on Friday, the society president Nawab Khattak Advocate said that the Peshawar Development Authority (PDA) has controlled over entire affairs of the Hayatabad Township, despite the completion of development work, which was completely against the constitution of the PDA.
Therefore, he sought a separate town status for the posh locality of Hayatabad. He demanded the formation of town committee to protect and save the assets of the township by refraining from the unnecessary burden of salaries and other miscellaneous expenditure. Mr. Khattak has blamed the incumbent PDA Director General for alleged involvement of massive corruption, adding that the DG. Saleem Hassan Watto had issued allotment of a one-kanal residential plot no- N one 551, worth of millions of rupees, on his name in four equal installments at mere cost of Rs 0.8millions in Hayatabad.
Flanked by the society Chairman Ihsanullah Khan, members Haji Qamar Ali Khan, Sirajul Haq Yousafzai, Ali Rehman, Malik Amir Zeb and others, he further maintained that the plot allotment was against the scheduled prices index list of Federal Board of Revenue.
He demanded that the National Accountability Bureau and other anti-corruption bodies to take action against Director PDA for alleged corruption and allotment of a residential plot against the rules, and immediate cancel the allotment order.
The society president demanded that the PDA Director General, Saleem Watto should be held accountable for damaging the institute and the looted money should be recovered from him. He furthermore said the PDA had issued contract to a company without any auction and procedure, to pave way of corruption.
Currently, he said PDA had earned revenue of Rs 60 million, against the hefty amount of Rs 440 million generated by the transparent contract process of Hayatabad Toll Plaza. He added that more than 400 to 500 staffs were hired by incumbent DG PDA, putting additional financial burden on the provincial exchequer.
He also expressed concern over collection of additional fees on name of transfer of plot, mapping and duplicate of plot documents, adding that said PDA has charged Rs 60,000 as transfer fee for one-kanal residential plot in Hayatabad, which was completely unjust with residents of the locality.
