Jamaat-e-Islami has criticised the government for dropping the agenda item of the proposed Fata reforms from federal cabinet meeting, and announced to observe black day across the tribal region on February 16. Addressing a news conference at press club here on Friday, JI Khyber Pakhtunkhwa ameer, Mushtaq Ahmad Khan said that the Fata reforms item was deliberately dropped from the federal cabinet meeting agenda list, which was tantamount to deprive the tribal people from all their fundamental rights and facilities.
Flanked by the JI deputy ameer, and former MNA, Sahibzada Haroon ul Rashid, Fata ameer, Sardar Khan, Fata Al-Khidmat head, Maulana Wahid and others, he criticised the Prime Minister and Federal cabinet for erecting a major hurdle in the way of reforms in Fata. He said that the government was not sincere to transform tribal region.
He further castigated the government for launching mega projects only in Punjab, like Metro bus, and orange train, but the government was reluctant to offer any constitutional package to tribal people. He said that such policy would increase sense of deprivation among the tribal people.
Mushtaq Ahmad said that all fundamental rights have been violated under the draconian Frontier Crime Regulation Act in Fata. He added the tribesmen don't have access to judicial system, while provincial assembly can not make/amend laws for them. He termed the Fata as open-air prison, under the current scenario.
He went on to say that tribal people had been deprived of basic health, education, besides the poor roads and infrastructure which hampers the development process in tribal agencies.
JI ameer said that his party had initiated movement for rights of tribal people, due to which government led committee proposed a reforms package and merger of Federally Administered Tribal Areas with Khyber Pakhtunkhwa. Similarly, he said a bill was moved by Fata parliamentarians, relating to Fata-KP integration, which was unanimously endorsed in both houses of the parliament.
However, he said that the leaders of Jamiat-e-Ulema Islam-Fazl and Paktun Mili Awami Party had shown opposition to Fata-KP integration, since they did not seem sincere in seeking legal and constitutional rights of tribal people, he added.
Mushtaq Ahmad said that the ball is in the court of Prime Minister, and federal cabinet; he expressed hope that they will support the merger of Fata with KP and offer them basic human rights and provide them all the facilitates enjoyed by people of other parts of country.
He said that JI would observe a black day against dropping of Fata reforms item from the federal cabinet meeting on February 16, later on a protest camp would be set-up outside Governor House from February 26 to 28, while party would also ensure participation in 'Dharna', in Islamabad on March 12. He said if the government didn't change its stance about the Fata reforms, JI would hold a long march toward Islamabad in the month of April.
