Parliamentary Secretary for Finance Rana Muhammad Afzal Khan said that federal government has decided to place five key regulatory bodies under the administrative control of Ministry of Inter Provincial Co-ordination (MoIPC. "We will take this step to diminish the perception and propaganda that the government will influence the decisions of regulatory bodies by placing them under the control of line ministries," the Parliamentary Secretary for Finance toldBusiness Recorder on Monday.
He said that Ministry of Inter Provincial Co-ordination is a ministry for all provinces and there would be no objections by the provinces as well as opposition parties in placing regulatory bodies under its administrative control. Answering a question, he said the government is taking steps for establishment of secretariat of Council of Common Interests (CCI) which would be placed under the Ministry of Inter Provincial Co-ordination.
Through amendment to the Rules of Business, 1973, the federal government on December 19, 2016 transferred five regulatory bodies, including National Electric Power Regulatory Authority (NEPRA), Oil and Gas Regulatory Authority (Ogra), Pakistan Telecommunication Authority (PTA), Frequency Allocation Board and Public Procurement Regulatory Authority (PPRA) to their line ministries.
