The Pakistan Health Research Advisory Board and the Pakistan Cardiac Society (PCS) asked the government Friday to collect data on diabetes, hypertension, obesity, hepatitis and cardiac ailments for presentation at the upcoming population census so that facts and figures on these ailments could be made available for policymaking.
On this occasion, the two organizations announced the names of three young cardiologists who were given the 1st Cardiology Research Award during the 46th annual conference of the PCS last month for their research papers in the field of cardiology. They are Dr Shazia Manji, from Tabba Heart Institute, who stood first; Dr Shazia Rasheed, second; and Dr Shahzaib Ahmed, third. The last two were from the National Institute of Cardiovascular Diseases. The national population census is the best opportunity for Pakistan's policymakers to collect data on the five diseases, dialectologist Dr Abdul Basit and Professor Naeem Aslam of the PCS said at a press conference.
