State Bank of Pakistan (SBP) has warned general public of a fake email ID that is being used to cheat people misusing the name of the Governor of the Sate Bank of Pakistan. SBP said on Tuesday that a fake email address was created in the name of Governor SBP and that circulated an email in which the recipient impersonated him as governor SBP and confirmed to have received a large sum of money from a foreign investor who has relevant documents of the UK government regarding transfer of US $120 million to Pakistan.
SBP has clarified that such email has never been issued by the governor SBP nor by his office or the SBP and that this is an attempt to defraud general public and defame and malign the institution. Taking legal recourse against the unscrupulous element behind these attempts, SBP has already lodged a complaint with the FIA authorities in Karachi.
