On the appeal of Hindu Pandits, Hurriyet leadership has announced to call off strike on the occasion of Shivratri on Friday. The leaders have asserted that calling off the strike on Shivratri "would further strengthen the bond between Kashmiri Pandits and Muslims."
"We have an exemplary tradition of mutual brotherhood and for ages we are living in harmony. While issuing resistance programme (last week), we did not notice the upcoming festival. Later, members from Pandit community drew our attention towards the issue and after consultations, resistance leadership called off the proposed strike for Friday," the joint statement issued here said.
On Monday, hundreds of people staged protest demonstrations against the stepped-up Indian state terrorism in Bandipora district. The protests erupted after the ruthless beating of several people by Indian army at Saderkoot Payeen area of the district. The protesters blocked Bandipora-Srinagar highway in Saderkot to protest against the unjustified action of the army.
The Chairman of All Parties Hurriyet Conference (APHC), Syed Ali Gilani while referring to freedom struggle of Kashmir, said that circumstances would force India to honour the aspiration of suppressed people of Kashmir or it will stand exposed despite its tall claims of being a democracy. "It is not proper to mention out-of-box options or solution as it will support and strengthen oppressors," said Gilani.
