While condemning the recent spate of terrorism in the country, Pakistan Tehreek-i-Insaf (PTI) Chairman Imran Khan has said that operation against terrorists should be launched across the country simultaneously in letter and spirit. "No extremist organisation should be allowed to operate in the country," said Imran while addressing a 'Meet the Press Program', Organized by Peshawar Press Club (PPC) here on Thursday. He said that all the political parties had mutually signed National Action Plan (NAP) after terrorists' attack on Army Public School in Peshawar.
He went on to say that the reaction of terrorists had come down to some extent after exodus of US led alliance forces from neighbouring Afghanistan. Similarly, he further added that fanaticism was dwindling but country has not exploited the situation and it could use it to our best advantage. He said that if the NAP was implemented in its letter and spirit then the situation could have changed completely.
Flanked by Chief Minister Pervez Khattak, Advisor Mushtaq Ahmad Ghani, Provincial Minister Shah Farman, office bearers of PPC and other high officials, Imran Khan said it was mistake not to conduct operation in Punjab which did a lot of damage to counter terrorism efforts. He praised the role of police in Charsadda attack and said we are proud of their effort. He called for de-politicizing of the police force across the country, saying that PTI would present a bill in Punjab and Sindh assemblies to replicate the KP Police Act in these provinces.
Imran Khan also said that National Action Plan should have been implemented. He termed it condonable that terrorist attacks were taking place again. "We need to change policies which previously allowed such organisations to operate," he said. Commenting on the recent launch of operation 'Raddul Fassaad' in the country, he criticised the Prime Minister for embarking on foreign visit despite the current situation in the country. He said it was required that the PM should hold consultation with all chief executives of provinces about the new operation 'Raddul Fasaad' to effectively combat the terrorism in the country.
PTI chief said that the proposed integration of Federally Administered Tribal Areas (FATA) into Khyber Pakhtunkhwa should have been launched soon after the commencement of Operation Zarb-e-Azb. In the meantime, he warned that if an issue of Federally Administered Tribal Areas (FATA) was not resolved soon then another Zarb-e-Azb would be needed to curb terrorism.
He viewed that the tribal people had been deprived of fundamental rights due to imposition of black law in Fata. He further added that no effective step being taken for rehabilitation and compensation for terrorism-hit people of tribal region. He called for holding of 'local body' elections in tribal region.
Imran said that the merger of the Federally Administered Tribal Areas with Khyber Pakhtunkhwa will benefit both and is the only viable solution. The pace of work on this proposal, however, is very slow, he said. Talking about Panama case, PTI chairman said the decision of this case will be a decisive moment for Pakistan. He said that it does not matter what decision comes out, certainly corruption would stop after it.
He further maintained that he has fought for the elimination of corruption from the country. "I have given my best and have fought to the last ball for my country against corruption and injustice. I am praying to Almighty God for success," he added.
Imran went on to add that for the first time a chief executive was held accountable in the case and future rulers will think many a times before resorting to corruption, loot and plunder of national wealth. "The case is with the judges now and the result depends on them," he said.
PTI chairman also told that the Federal Minister for Finance Ishaq Dar used to launder money for prime minister. Leaders should be righteous and honest, he added. He said the Pakistan had become debts-trapped country, due to wrong monetary policies. He called for honest and dedicated leadership to steer the country clear from quagmire of current economic situation and crisis.
Replying to a question, he expressed great anguish over the harassment of Pakhtuns in Punjab and Sindh province, and assured that he would raise the issue with authorities concerned. He also directed the Chief Minister Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Pervez Khattak to pay visit to both provinces and convey the reservations over harassment of Pakhtuns.
On Pak-Afghan relations, Imran said Afghanistan is now speaking the language of India, which is lamentable for Pakistan. "President Ashraf Ghani has now taken a similar tone as that of his predecessor Hamid Karzai which is a big failure on Pakistan's part [on the diplomatic front]," He added.
