Pakistan Petroleum Limited (PPL) Balochistan Football Cup 2017 is set to kick-off from March 10. The district-level matches are scheduled to be held across six provincial divisions: Quetta, Kalat, Makran, Sibi, Zhob and Naseerabad. Altogether, 35 teams will play the round matches between March 10 and 18 followed by the final round starting from March 20. The semi-finals will be played on March 31 and final on April 2 at Sadiq Shaheed Football Stadium (Malibagh), Quetta.
"Following the successful PPL Balochistan Football Cup 2016 we are proud to host the second edition, as committed to the people of Balochistan. In continuation of our long-term commitment to local communities in the province, we aim to engage youth in healthy recreation through hosting the football cup series," said Managing Director and Chief Executive Officer, PPL, Syed Wamiq Bokhari.
Recapturing the successful event in 2016, Muhammad Essa Khan, former skipper of Pakistan football team and ambassador of the current tournament observed, "the cup revitalized the sport in Balochistan, where a mega tournament was held after a long gap, providing players a chance to exhibit their talent." Former national footballers Nasrullah Khan, Sher Ali, Saad Ullah, Mehmood and Zahid Hameed are also tournament ambassadors.
The event is being organised in collaboration with Government of Balochistan, Pakistan Football Federation and Balochistan Football Association. PPL will offer attractive incentives and prizes for all teams playing at the district-level and final rounds. In addition, the company will also provide sports kit to all players, besides meeting other expenses, enabling optimum participation from all arear.-PR
