Despite agreeing on extension of two years in tenure of military courts, Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) Tuesday hinted at participating in the multi-party conference being organised by Pakistan People's Party Parliamentarians (PPPP) on revival of military courts. All the parliamentary leaders, except of the PPPP, have agreed to vote for a controversial amendment proposed by ruling Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz-led government to revive military courts for another two years.
The PPPP delegation headed by its Secretary General Farhatullah Babar called on PTI Vice Chairman Shah Mehmood and invited him to participate in the multi-parties moot that will take place on March 04 at Bilawal House. Mehmood thanked the delegation and hinted at participating in the conference after consulting the party Chairman Imran Khan. He said that PTI has always been in the forefront in matter pertaining to eradicating the menace of terrorism from the country.
"We played our due role in the parliamentary committee headed by National Assembly Speaker. We gave our input and finally all the parties agreed that the term for the military should be extended for another two years," he added. Talking to the media after the meeting, Mehmood said that all stakeholders should put their heads together to come up with a plan to fight terrorism, adding compared to the past, this time a parliamentary oversight committee will monitor the performance of the military courts.
"This time, a parliamentary oversight committee will review the performance of these military courts after every 30 or sixty days period, and the government will be bound to inform the parliamentary leaders in case of any extension in the term of the military courts," he added.
