Punjab University Registrar Professor Dr Naeem Khan has said that PU would continue to benefit from the experience and services of senior retired professors appointed as professor emeritus. In a press statement, Dr Naeem Khan said that in recognition of services / scholarship to the university, 17 retired meritorious professors, retired vice chancellors and retired professors conferred as Professor Emeritus for life time would continue to serve the university.
He said that Professor Dr Rafiq Ahmed from economics, Sheikh Imtiaz Ali from Law, Dr Khairaat M Ibn-e-Rasa from chemistry, Dr Zuhoor Ahmad Azhar from Arabic, Dr Munawar S Mirza from education, Dr Najma Najam from applied psychology, Dr AR Shakoori from zoology, Dr Khawaja M Zakaria from Urdu, Dr Hassan Askari Rizvi from political science, Dr Syed Muhammad Akram Shah from Persian, Dr Javed Iqbal from botany, Dr Razi Abbas Shamsi from botany, Dr Muhammad Nawaz Chaudhry from geology, Dr Muhammad Waheed Akhtar from biochemistry, Dr Arif Butt from chemical engineering, Dr Shahbaz Malik from Punjabi and Dr Jamila Shaukat from Islamic studies would continue to serve their respective departments.
He said that these professors would continue mentorship contributing to the academic life of the university to a great extent in consonance with the status and caliber of the title. He said that the impression was wrong that we had totally relived retired professors from university rather the senior professors appointed as professor emeritus would continue to provide guidance or continue research with faculty and students. They would also continue to supervise post-graduate students and the university would not waste its talent and pride, he added. He said that more of the experienced professors would be inducted as professor emeritus soon after the approval of the Syndicate.
