Literary personalities and dignitaries paid rich tribute to noted historian and former Sindh education minister, late Dr Hamida Khuhro, for her innovative literary services in the province saying Sindh has lost one of its great historian and educationist with her death.
Speaking at a memorial meeting for her at the Pakistan Arts Council, here on Sunday, they said the gulf created by her death could not be plugged.
"Hamida Khuhro was an eminent scholar, a historian of integrity and politician of deep commitment," Nisar Khuhro, Sindh senior minister said, praising her services in the field of politics, history, education and literature rendered for the nation. He termed her death a national loss saying that Dr Khuhro made hectic efforts for ensuring quality education in the Sindh province.
He said that after having worked in various scholarly positions, she authored remarkable books on history. He said that she joined politics and twice served as Sindh's education minister. He said that she also served as a Professor of History at the University of Sindh.
"Hamida Khuhro was a great daughter of Sindh. Her services in education and history will be remembered forever," said former Ambassador of Pakistan to the United Nations Abdullah Hussain Haroon. He said that she always well understood issues of Sindh and made efforts for their solution.
Oxford University Press (OUP) Managing Director Ameena Saiyid said that OUP had honour to publish some books of Hamida Khuhro.
"She always remained anxious for education progress in Sindh, and I have good relations with her for the last 25 years, she said
Journalist and TV anchor Zarar Khuhro said that not only he missed her but all people of Sindh people missed her. She was greatly caring for us and never annoyed while discussing issues. He said he learnt a lot from her.
"Hamida Khuhro remains present in our memory today for her great literary and history services. Her name will always be remembered," said Ahmed Shah, president of Arts Council.
Among others Former mohtasib Sindh Sadiq Al Khairi, and family members of Dr Hamida Khuhro also attended the memorial meeting.
