The #MeToo movement is in full force in India, with almost every big celebrity speaking up on it. However, surprisingly Aishwarya Rai Bachchan was seen avoiding discussing the topic when it was brought up by the media at an event.

Aishwarya attended a fundraising event to create awareness for breast cancer and cervical cancer, when media posed the questions about #MeToo, after which she stormed out of the event without giving any answer.

Earlier she did give a brief statement about the MeToo movement in Bollywood. She said in an interview few days back that she strongly supports the movement and will continue to speak for the rights and safety of women. She also credited social media for enabling women to voice their stories.

Saying that there is no right or wrong time to share stories of abuse and call out the guilty, she told an Indian media, “When it comes to helping women find their voice, find the strength, feel confident about sharing their stories, it’s not about the current time. This has been going on since a lot of time and I am glad it has found a certain momentum today”.

On Friday, the Indian High Court said that the #MeToo campaign was only for the victims, and it should not be misused by anyone to level allegations of sexual harassment against anybody to settle their own scores.

The #MeToo movement snowballed in India after Tanushree Dutta accused Nana Patekar for sexually harassing her.
