Chairman Aam Log Ittehad Party (ALI), former Justice Wajihuddin Ahmed on Saturday said that a special cell has been established as per the decisions of the All Parties Conference (APC) held at the Karachi Press Club (KPC) to monitor the census process. He said the cell is comprised of Pasban-e-Pakistan, Aam Log Ittehad, Khakisar Tehreek and Mazdoor Kissan Party.
Leaders of different political parties, area notables and social workers would also be included in the census monitoring cell. The teams of this cell would remain in contact with their central cell. An important meeting of the census monitoring cell would be held on Sunday (today) at Aadamjee Nagar of Kathiawar Society.
Wajihuddin Ahmed told this during a meeting with a Pasban delegation that called on him, led by Pasban Secretary General Usman Moazzam. He said the census is not a political issue. He said it is not also related to the general elections. He said for the progress and prosperity of any nation holding a correct census is necessary. He said the census data helps in proper planning for future. He said if apathy and carelessness is shown in this important process it would be an excess to our coming generations.
He said holding transparent census should be top priority of the central government and Council of Common Interests (CCI). He said to keep a closer eye and vigil on the census process is the responsibility of the citizens as this issue belongs to their own interest.
He said now the nation would not tolerate any more frauds. He said the APC hosted by Pasban at the KPC on March 9 and the resolution passed by it represents the aspirations of whole Pakistani nation. He demanded to implement the resolution in letter and spirit.
Wajihuddin regretted that in the past census processes transparency and correctness was not ensured; this is why the nation and country, as well as, the governments faced a lot of issues regarding proper planning and rapid development of the country.
He said if the government departments work honestly, Pakistan could get rid of illiteracy, joblessness and unjust distribution of resources and achieve a reduction in poverty. He said this is the only way to resolve the grave issues faced by the nation and country. He said regarding the census process, the ALI had filed a petition on February 19 but so far they have no information about any progress on this petition; however, the census is set to start from March 15, 2017.
