Interior Minister Chaudhry Nisar Ali Khan Wednesday said that the government is committed to removing blasphemous material from Facebook and other websites and pages on the social media and it is using each and every option to tackle this issue. This he stated during a high-level meeting held regarding progress in FIA investigation on blasphemous material and in the light of directives of the Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif in this regard.
The meeting was told that according to directions of Minister of Interior , a senior officer of Pakistan Embassy in Washington has been given responsibility that under right to information, he should expedite his efforts for obtaining information from Facebook administration about the matter.
On the directives of interior minister, FIA has also gave directions to Interpol to point out the Facebook pages containing blasphemous material which is also a heinous crime under the Interpol laws. Services of noted lawyer Farrukh Karim are also being obtained to pursue the case in the international courts to prevent Facebook from hurting Muslims sentiments.
FIA officials further told the meeting that till now 11 persons have been found and investigation from them is underway, adding that the assistance is also being taking from the Interpol regarding investigation from some persons. FIA officials said that in the light of verdict and directives of high judiciary, formal application has been given in this regard to Facebook admin and reply in this regard is being awaited.
The interior minister expressed his hope that Facebook administration will cooperate with Pakistani people and their customers large in number, keeping in view their religious sentiments. He directed the Federal Investigation Agency (FIA) to acquire assistance from other intelligence agencies to point out that who is responsible for advertisement of the blasphemous material.
