Pakistan and Afghanistan have agreed on steps and measures to improve the current tense bilateral relations and mutual trust, said Omar Zakhilwal, Afghan Ambassador. In a statement, the Afghan Ambassador said that a high level meeting between Adviser to the Prime Minister on Foreign Affairs Sartaj Aziz and Afghan National Security Adviser Hanif Atmar was hosted by the British government in London on Thursday.
"The meeting with the aim to discuss and agree on a mechanism for genuine bilateral cooperation on fighting terrorism, agree on steps and measures to improve the current tense bilateral relations and mutual trust has been concluded very positively", he said.
Discussions were substantive, constructive, forward-looking and result-oriented, he said, adding the success of the important meeting certainly will be judged by the common people of the two respective countries as to how this, in practical terms, responds to their aspiration for good neighbourly relations, peace and their well being.
"We are positive that the implementation of the mechanism we agreed upon can inject the needed trust and confidence for constructive forward looking state to state relations and cooperation", he added.
According to Foreign Office spokesperson Nafees Zakaria, the Adviser to the Prime Minister on Foreign Affairs is on a visit to London to attend the Commonwealth Ministerial Action Group (CMAG) meeting.
He said that presence of Adviser there where Afghan National Security Adviser was also on a visit was seen as an opportunity for them to meet and discuss situation in Afghanistan and bilateral issues, particularly, related to the border management and cross-border terrorism that caused loss of numerous precious lives of our citizens.
