Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) chairman Imran Khan said on Thursday that the speaker National Assembly Ayaz Sadiq should step down for referring a frivolous reference to the Election Commission against him and his party's secretary general Jahangir Tareen. The ECP dismissed disqualification references declaring them un-maintainable and not worth-hearing.
"The person who is considered to be the custodian of the House, has proved to be a courtier of Sharifs," Khan said speaking at a press conference outside his Bani Gala residence.
"If he [Ayaz Sadiq] had some self-conscience, he should quit immediately as he doesn't deserve the coveted post of Speaker because he has become a party instead of running the House in an impartial manner," he said.
Chairman PTI alleged that Ayaz Sadiq together with Sharif family resorted to blackmail him after he exposed the corruption of Sharifs. He said they had no idea that a man such as him would not bow to the pressure as his hands are clean.
"I and Jehangir Tareen submitted the evidence in response to the allegations which forced the ECP to reject the reference as it carried no weight," he said.
Khan said that his assets were declared and he had provided money trail and sales deed of his flat in London to ECP in December. He said the Sharifs who had laundered money had nothing to prove their money trail.
He marked that he was targeted by Sharif family for exposing their corruption and dragging them to the court.
"There is no difference between Nawaz Sharif's so-called democracy and dictatorship," he said, adding that public service institutions are serving Sharif family. He also criticized FIA and FBR for their ineptness in eradicating corruption and plunder from the country.
He said that all institutions kept seeking evidences against him and Jahangir Tareen but they had to kiss the dust at the end of the day. He said that it was being done to divert attention from Panama Papers leaks which exposed the Sharifs.
PTI chairman said that Nawaz Sharif bestowed his Qatari business partner with a contract worth billions of rupees without bidding. He said that unfortunately, in this country, all state institutions are serving a corrupt man, whose money laundering is no secret.
Responding to a question, he said that he had no idea that Nawaz Sharif used to sing the songs of renowned Indian singer Muhammad Rafi. He said he knew that Sharif never played cricket with a neutral umpire.
He said social media is a revolution of 21st century and banning social media will be a ferocious act. He advised the government to refrain from such sort of move and hinted to take up the issue to streets.
"I vowed in Supreme Court that if a single statement of mine proves false I will quit politics. Today, I am thankful to Allah Almighty for triumph against false allegations," he maintained.
To another question, he said that the way Ayaz Sadiq was escorting the daughter of Maryam Nawaz Sharif to the conference of women parliamentarians, showed his position is not different from that of a darbari or a courtier.
"In which capacity Maryam was invited to address the women MPs...there is no democracy in this country and if there had been a democracy, things such as it would not have happened" he said.
