Dwellers of Shami Road, a posh locality of the city have opposed the proposed plan of Cantonment Board Peshawar (CBP) to construct a multi-story plaza in the area and demanded of the concerned quarters to take notice of commercial activity in a purely residential area. In a press statement issued here on Tuesday, dwellers of Shami Road said Cantonment Board authorities were planning to construct a multi-story plaza in the area which was totally against rules of residential societies.
Dwellers said the Cantonment Board authorities were also incorporating a green belt near already existed commercial area in the locality comprising five shops. There were only five shops for provision of basic facilities to people of the area like general store, bread baker, electrician etc. Whereas now, the CBP authorities have demolished the existing shops and plan to construct a plaza through incorporating a nearby green belt, alleges the dwellers.
The Shami Road residents said the locality was a red zone and increase in commercial activity could also create problems for maintenance of proper security in the area. Furthermore, they said construction of multi-story building would increase noise and air pollution due to increase in visit of people and motorists. They requested the quarters concerned to take notice of construction of multi-story plaza in a purely residential area.
On one hand, CBP did not allow dwellers of cantonment area to use their houses for commercial activities, but on the other it was also launching commercial projects in residential areas, they added. The Shami Road dwellers also announced to approach the court in case if their concerns were not given due consideration.
