Facebook redesigns Messenger app in order to simplify it

Making life easier for Messenger users, Facebook is rolling out a brand new simplified version of its Messenger app, making it friendlier with a refreshed design and simplified experience.

Social media firm Facebook announced a brand new version of Messenger app, Messenger 4, which will be a lot more simpler to use than the previous versions. The company acknowledged that Messenger had become cluttered over the years.

Stan Chudnovsky, head of product for Facebook Messenger expressed, “It’s not as simple as the app was at the beginning. We knew it needed to be simple again.”

According to Engadget, the new version consists of three tabs instead of nine. The Chats tab contains all the conversations, from the People tab, users can see who’s online and the third Discover tab is focused on connecting users with businesses and also giving users the access to the platform’s Instant Games.

Though refurbishing the design, Facebook didn’t remove any features. The camera feature has been moved to the top of the app, while the Stories still sit prominently at the top. However, the company did add few more features including the ability to change color of chat bubbles to gradient and also a new Dark Mode, wrote Mashable.

Calling it as a ‘new foundational element’, Chudnovsky agreed that the changes made weren’t significant. “Changing the UI of something that 1.3 billion people use, that’s really hard to do without making a lot of people who are using your app really upset. That’s why big redesigns generally don’t happen, or when they do, they don’t go well,” said Chudnovsky.

The new Facebook Messenger has already started to roll out for Android and iOS users.
