The prices of essential kitchen items remained high during this week past as compared to the preceding week, reveals a survey conducted by Business Recorder, here on Saturday. According to details of the survey, the prices of the top kitchen items including tomatoes, potatoes, onions, ginger and garlic witnessed an upward trend for the third consecutive week.
One quintal of potatoes in the wholesale market is available at Rs 2,350 against Rs 2,000, while onions are available at Rs 2,750 against Rs 2,500 per quintal and a box of 10kg of tomatoes is being sold at Rs 1,300. Tomatoes are being sold at Rs 150 against Rs 140 per kg in the retail market, onions are being sold at Rs 40 per kg, good quality potatoes are being sold at Rs 35 against Rs 30 per kg, while normal quality potatoes are available at Rs 30 per kg.
Ginger is being available at Rs 600 per 5kg in the wholesale market while it is being sold at Rs 140 per kg in the retail market, Chinese garlic is being available at Rs 1,400 per 5kg and it is still being sold at Rs 320 per kg in the retail market, local garlic is being available at 1,100 per 5kg in the wholesale market and it is available at Rs 250 per kg in the retail market, lemon price further went up from Rs 300 to Rs 400 per 5kg, and it is being sold at Rs 100 against Rs 80 per kg in the retail market.
Traders in the wholesale market told Business Recorder that the prices of these vegetables will reduce within the next two weeks with the arrival of fresh produce from Punjab and Sindh. The prices of all the major pulses remained stable as maash is being sold at Rs 160 per kg; channa at Rs 170 per kg, lobia at Rs 100-120 per kg, monng at Rs 120 per kg, masoor at Rs 110 per kg; the price of rice also remained stable as best quality Basmati rice is being available at Rs 120 per kg while its normal quality is being available at Rs 70 per kg.
During the week under review, chicken prices also remained on high slide as 40kg chicken is being sold at Rs 6,000 in the wholesale market, live chicken is being available at Rs 170-175 per kg in the retail market. Chicken meat price has touched Rs 300 against Rs 280 per kg, egg price further reduced from Rs 84 to Rs 72 per dozen, which are being sold at Rs 84 against Rs 100 per dozen in the retail market. Sugar price is stable at Rs 3,100 per 50kg bag, and it is being sold at Rs 67-70 per kg in the retail market, a bag of 20kg normal quality wheat flour is being available at Rs 750.
Good quality fresh milk is being available at Rs 100 per kg while normal quality is being available at Rs 85 per kg, fresh yogurt is being sold at Rs 100-120 per kg. Brinjal price reduced from Rs 250 to Rs 180 per 5kg in the wholesale market which are being available at Rs 45 against Rs 70 per kg in the retail market, carrot went up from Rs 150 to Rs 180 per 5kg and it is being sold at Rs 45 against Rs 35 per kg in the retail market, cucumber is being available at Rs 100 per 5kg and it is being sold at 30 per kg in the retail market, a pack of radish weighing 8kg is being available at Rs 100 per pack in the wholesale market, and it is being sold at Rs 15 per kg in the retail market.
Okra is being sold at Rs 650 per 5kg and is being sold at Rs 150 per kg in the retail market, peas are at Rs 230 per 5kg which in retail is being sold at Rs 60 per kg, tinda is being available at Rs 150 per 5kg, which in retail is being sold at Rs 40 per kg, maro kadu price reduced from Rs 300 per 5kg to Rs 150 per 5kg and kadu price came down from Rs 350 to Rs 200 per 5kg in wholesales market while in retail maro is being sold at Rs 40 per kg against Rs 70 per kg and kadu at Rs 45 per kg against Rs 80 per kg.
Karaila price is stable at Rs 800 per 5kg, which in retail is being sold at Rs 200 per kg while arvi price went up from Rs 300 per 5kg to Rs 350 per 5kg, which in retail market is being sold at Rs 80 per kg against Rs 70 per kg.
Cauliflower price went down from Rs 200 per 5kg to Rs 160 per 5kg which in retail is being sold at Rs 40 per kg against Rs 50 per kg while cabbage price remained stable at Rs 100 per 5kg which in retail is being sold at Rs 30 per kg. Capsicum price is stable at Rs 350 per 5kg which in retail is being sold at Rs 80 per kg, beans price went down from Rs 300 per 5kg to Rs 270 per 5kg, which in retail market are being sold at Rs 60 per kg against Rs 70 per kg.
The survey observed that the prices of entire range of fruits remained stable in the market as Iranian apple is being sold at Rs 170 per kg, Chinese apple at Rs 200 per kg, local best quality apple Kala Kolu at Rs 140 per kg, golden apple at Rs 120 per kg and normal quality Ambri apple at Rs 80 per kg. Best quality Indian banana is being sold at Rs 150 per kg, normal quality at Rs 120 per dozen, best quality local banana at Rs 110 per dozen while normal quality at Rs 60 per dozen. Best quality guava at Rs 100 per kg, while normal quality at Rs 70 per kg, different quality of oranges in the range of Rs 50/190 per dozen. New arrival best quality melons are being available at Rs 70 per kg and strawberry at Rs 250 per kg.
