With eyes on the next general elections, the Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP) has started preparatory work to bag maximum number of National Assembly seats in Punjab so as to return the corridor of power.
Former president Asif Zardari, chairman PPPP who has camped at Bilawal House in Lahore has convened a meeting of senior party leaders on Monday to discuss the award of party tickets to the prospective candidates.
The PPPP Chairman has already set the tone to show better performance of the party in the general elections in Punjab, knowing well that they can reach the capital if they win from the larger province. He has started open and secret meetings with some prominent candidates and the estranged party leaders. After hosting the Chaudhry Brothers in Lahore, he made it a point to reach Multan and meet former religious affairs minister Hamid Saeed Kazmi, who was dismissed during the PPP government on corruption charges and released only a few days ago.
Zardari who has already vowed to give a shock to the ruling PML-N in Punjab, will discuss with the senior leaders about tickets to the strong candidates, even if at the cost of the die hard activists.
Zardari is certain that no one can challenge the PPP in Sindh where a few opposition candidates who had been winning traditional seats have joined the party.
Therefore he is concentrating all his attention in Punjab. Bilawal Bhutto Zardari, PPP Chairman has also called a meeting of the leaders in Islamabad to devise a strategy on how to bag maximum seats because during the next elections, it would be a 3-way contest between PML-N, PTI and PPP.
