Karachi Mayor Waseem Akhtar said on Friday he would file a plea in the Court on Monday against the transfer of Bagh-e-Ibn-e-Qasim's control to Bahria Town by Sindh Government in the guise of adoption policy. "The handing over of the Park to a private Organization is sheer violation of section-74 of Sindh Local Government Act 2013," said Waseem Akhtar at a press conference at the Kothari Parade, Bagh Ibn-e Qasim Clifton. He said that the Bagh-e-Ibn-e-Qasim is KMC's property as it was gifted by the Parsi Community to Karachi.
"I have no issue with the adoption, but due process was not fulfilled in this regard. I strongly oppose the procedure adopted by the provincial government," he asserted. Karachi mayor said that neither the KMC nor the Mayor was taken on board. He said that it was the latest example of Sindh Government's bad governance.
On the other hand, Senior Sindh Minister and PPP leader Nisar Ahmed Khuhro said that the Park was adopted by Malik Riaz of Bahria Town for upgrading the recreational park on modern lines. "Bahria Town will bear all expenses on this development except remuneration of employees of the KMC Parks and Horticulture Department," he said. Malik Riaz, however, has said he would not adopt the park under such circumstances. He said he would not implore for adoption of the park because he wanted to develop it by his own funds.
