Pakistan on Monday lodged protest with India by summoning its top diplomat against the deliberate targeting of civilian population in ceasefire violations on the Line of Control (LoC). According to Foreign Office Spokesperson Nafees Zakaria, Indian Deputy High Commissioner JP Singh was summoned to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs by Director General, South Asia and SAARC, Dr Mohammad Faisal.
He said that the director general condemned the unprovoked ceasefire violation by the Indian occupation forces on April 01, 2017 at 1640 hours, on the LoC in Chirikot Sector, resulting in the shahadat (martyrdom) of an 18-year-old civilian Muhammad Attique Qureshi son of Muhammad Khalil Qureshi, resident of village Polas, Chirikot. "The deliberate targeting of civilians is indeed condemnable and contrary to human dignity and international human rights and humanitarian laws," the Indian side was told.
The director general also urged the Indian side to respect the 2003 ceasefire understanding, investigate this and other incidents of ceasefire violations, instruct the Indian forces to respect the ceasefire in letter and spirit and maintain peace on the LoC.
