Co-Chairman Pakistan Peoples Party Parliamenta-rians (PPPP) Asif Ali Zardari on Thursday rejected the decision of Supreme Court in the Panama Leaks case and said that Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif should resign as he has lost moral ground after apex court's verdict.
He expressed these views while addressing a news conference here at Zardari House. Party Chairman Bilawal Bhutto Zardari, Leader of Opposition in the Senate Chaudhry Aitzaz Ahsan, Leader of Opposition in the National Assembly Syed Khursheed Shah, Qamar Zaman Kaira, Senator Farhatullah Babar and others were also present on this occasion.
Zardari said, "I appreciate two senior judges of the Supreme Court for their dissenting notes in the decision. The two judges have said that the Prime Minister is no more 'Sadiq and Ameen.' In my point of view, the Prime Minister should tender resignation as he has lost moral ground after the decision of the apex court."
While rejecting the constitution a joint investigation team (JIT), Co-Chairman PPPP questioned, "It is a joke. What will the officers of grade-19 decide who are under the Prime Minister?"
Answering a question, Zaradri claimed that Chairman Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) Imran Khan gave a safe passage to the Prime Minister, while the PPPP's Panama Papers Bill was the only way for investigation into the Panama Papers. He said if the PPPP and other opposition parties had taken a joint decision at that time the result would have been different today.
"It hurts democracy and justice, and is a joke with the nation. The majority of junior judges have joked with the people of Pakistan; however, the senior two judges have given the finest decision. I salute the two senior judges," he said.
"Imran Khan, we told you to join us and make legislation and then take him to the court," he said. "But he [Khan] does not listen to us. He has never been to jail, he does not know how judges work and how justice works," the co-chairman PPPP said.
He said, "I was disappointed by Imran Khan who left us and went to the Supreme Court alone. If Aitzaz Ahsan had argued against them [the Sharif family], the decision might have been different."
"Mian Sahab you have failed. You cannot run the government. Give someone else a chance to run the government," he suggested.
"They have no concern except their own enjoyment," the Co-Chairman PPPP said about the PML-N.
"Why are they distributing sweets? Because two senior judges said you [PM Sharif] should be disqualified? This is why you are eating sweets?" he asked.
"We believe if Pakistan is not safe in the hands of Nawaz Sharif, it is also not safe in the hands of Imran Khan," Zardari claimed.
Answering another question, the Co-Chairman PPPP said, "We will see what other political forces decide, and the people's decision will also guide us."
Answering a question, Zardari said that he and Bilawal would come join the Parliament throug by-elections.
Senator Aitzaz Ahsan said the three judges did not give the Prime Minister a clean chit while the two senior judges have disqualified the Prime Minister.
He said there will be no use of forming JIT while the Prime Minister remains in power. When the PPPP looks into the history, judiciary always gave an edge to Nawaz Sharif, he said.
Answering a question, he said, "I would say that the Supreme Court has invoked the doctrine of necessity. All I can say is all those who had taken part in the historic lawyers' movement for the independence of judiciary would be left disappointed by the verdict," he said.
Answering a question, Qamar Zaman Kaira said that the PPPP wants to move forward by taking all other opposition parties along, adding that the doors of the party are open for others in this regard.
