Martyrs of 'Qissa Khwani' massacre remembered

While remembering the Qissa Khwani martyrs, a rally was held here on Sunday on the occasion of 87th death anniversary of 400 martyrs. The Britain on April 23, 1930 had killed 400 people when the British troops had opened fire on the unarmed citizens at Qissa Khwani Bazaar of Peshawar.
On April 23, 1930, the British troops opened indiscriminate firing on non-violent Muslim demonstrators who were protesting against the British law in Qissa Khwani. About 400 Muslim protesters were martyred from the British troops shooting.
The rally was organised by a literary, cultural and social welfare organisation, Gandhara Hindko Board, at Qissa Khawani, Peshawar. The rally participants first rallied in Qissa Khwani Bazaar and then laid floral wreaths on the martyrs' monument.
Later, a stage drama was also presented at Gorr Gatri to bring awareness among masses regarding the Qissa Khwani massacre.
The Gandhara Hindko Board member Atiq media persons on the occasion that the government needed to include an essay in text books regarding the Qissa Khwani massacre so that our future generations could learn about the sacrifices that our elders laid for the country.
