HRBS - Human Resource Benchmarking Survey, launched in 2006 has completed a decade of success, conducted by Sidat Hyder Morshed Associates bi-annually since 2006, is running its 6th cycle this year. HRBS Survey was initiated with an intention of capturing the overall picture of what HR Practitioners' are actually doing and how HR personnel can leverage the collective experience to maximise gains not just for an individual organizations but for the country as a whole.
Sidat Hyder, being renowned management consultants in the corporate industry, aims at contributing the promotion of HR culture in Pakistan and identifying the current trends prevailing in the market. Over the years the increasing number of HRBS Survey participants shows the benefit the Pakistani industry is gaining from the survey findings.
Over the period of 10 years, about 140 organizations, both local businesses and multinationals, have participated in HRBS. Human Resource Benchmarking Survey represents a range of sectors such as Oil & Gas, FMCG, I.T. & Telecom, Banking and Financial Institutes, Pharmaceuticals, Social Development etc. HRBS features a broad based coverage of companies operating in Pakistan and the aim of this survey is to carry out an analysis of the HR policies, tools, and practices used by different entities across various sectors of the economy and highlighting their correlation and impact with the help of HR metrics.
In order to ensure data accuracy and integrity, the methodology for the survey involves several steps including a face to face meeting with respondents to ensure that the data reported is indeed accurate and properly understood. Any queries respondents may have are handled through a hot line as well as through the face to face meeting. The questionnaire is administered online, to ensure speed and accuracy of data entry.
The detailed data is subsequently shared with respondents in the form of a report, and Platinum level participants receive a gap analysis as well. During the Seminar, we like to share the top level findings with the HR Community as a whole, and discuss any interesting trends as well as predict which trends seem to be gathering momentum with organizations. In some cases these trends follow global trends but in other cases, the trends are entirely local and anchored in the particular economic and social fabric of Pakistan.
The objective behind the survey was to in fact identify the HR trends which are particular to the Pakistani context, and in this regard, it's a good counter check on our gut feel of where the employment market is moving and hence in which areas the HR Policies and Procedures need to focus in future.
The HRBS Survey findings are shared in a one day seminar with an aim to share the main survey findings with the open audience. The seminar includes a presentation of the key findings of the survey, as well as a panel discussion on these findings by industry experts.
The previous HRBS-2014 stated that the HR elements such as appraisals, succession planning, defining code of conduct have become a frequent practice in the organizations. About 90% of the participating organizations have clearly documented values. The survey findings also show that performance appraisals have gone from once a year to twice a year and almost more than half of the companies are using forced bell curve which has increased over the years. The survey findings also revealed that the social media is commonly used for advertising vacancies. Lastly, the analysis showed that core focus areas in the coming years will be acquiring and retaining employees.
This year's seminar will focus on the trends identified and identify future trends in HR in Pakistan. These trends will guide how HR policy and procedure are formulated by HR practitioners and will provide insights into the best practices in attracting, retaining, motivating staff and getting the best out of them.
