The National Assembly Standing Committee on Cabinet Secretariat expressed strong displeasure and grilled the officials of Federal Investigation Agency (FIA), Pakistan International Airlines (PIA) and Civil Aviation Authority (CAA) over the illegal aggression of a female staffer of FIA on female passengers at Islamabad Airport on April 15, 2017, which tarnished the image of the country. The committee met with Rana Muhammad Hayat Khan in the chair here at the Parliament House on Thursday.
Hayat and other members expressed strong displeasure when the officials of FIA gave contradictory statements on the issue of manhandling of female passengers and said that criminal case should be registered against the officials found involved in the incident.
The committee directed the authorities concerned to take stern action against culprits by removing them from their services to avoid such incidents in future. The committee chairman said that such incidents not only defamed the government but also damaged the image of the country at international level. He said there was a need of training of PIA staff on how to behave with the passengers.
Asad Umar said it was criminal offence of FIA lady as she physically attacked the passenger woman and criminal case should be registered against her. The FIA official said the staffer had been suspended and FIR had been lodged against her. Hayat said the committee had written a letter to the Prime Minister about the dismal performance of the PIA.
The committee expressed grave concern over the passive and non-professional attitude of PIA/CAA officials as they were ill-prepared and unable to convince the committee through their answers. The committee decided to invite the attention of the Prime Minister on the matter. The committee also decided to write a letter to Acting Chief Executive Officer Nayyar Hayat in this regard.
The meeting was attended by MNAs Asad Umar, Rasheed Ahmed Khan, Rana Muhammad Qasim Noon, Syed Javed Ali Shah, Moulvi Agha Muhammad, Syed Ali Raza Abidi, Sardar Mansab Ali Dogar, Seema Mohiuddin Jameeli, Nafeesa Inayatullah Khan Khattak, Parveen Masood Bhatti, Shehnaz Saleem and Nighat Parveen Mir, and movers of the Bill Naeema Kishwar Khan and Dr Azra Fazal Pechuho, and senior officers of the ministries/departments concerned.
